 WATER PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 

The Teacher's Quarter Water Project2013

Funded through a Small Grants Application (SPA) given by USAID (through Peace Corps Cameroon) Better Family Foundation was able to build one additional spring catchment, lay approximately 1.83km of pipe connecting an additional 3 standpipes to the existing system. The entire project cost 1.5 million francs (approximately 3,000 USD). As a result at least 800+ villagers improved access to safe drinking water.

 

The Ameng Water Project- 2013 

Funded through a Small Grants Application (SPA) given by USAID (through Peace Corps Cameroon) Better Family Foundation was able to build one spring catchment, one 10,000 liter water storage tank, lay approximately 560 meters of pipe connecting a total of 3 standpipes. The entire project cost 1.5 million francs (approximately 3,000 USD). As a result at least 450+ villagers have direct access to safe drinking water with at least 1,000 indirect beneficiaries.

 

The Alim-Boyui Water Project- 2012

Partnered with many donors through GlobalGiving Better Family Foundation was able to rehabilitate the Alim-Boyui water scheme. This project helped form a water management committee, repair/refurbish and or rebuild 21 stand-taps and fix at least 100 meters of broken pipe line. With the help of additional local contributions BFF was able to build two water stations at local schools to benefit school children. The entire project cost 2.1 million francs (approximately 4,200 USD). As a result 1500+ villagers have access to safe drinking water.

 

The Bainjong Water Project- 2012

Partnered with Shared World Vision Better Family Foundation rehabilitated the catchment area and connected the catchment to the Bainjong community with seven standpipes over two kilometers of pipeline. The entire project cost 4.5 million francs (approximately 9,000 USD). As a result 800 villagers have access to safe drinking water.

 

 The Meli Water Project- 2010

Working in collaboration with Lois Pierris and Gary Dantzig, private US donors, Better Family Foundation built a spring catchment and a tank in order to pipe water to the Meli Government High School. Along the two kilometer pipeline Better Family Foundation built six standpipes which services portions of Ngwainkuma and Meli, as well as the Meli High School. The entire project cost 2.5 million francs (approximately 5,000 USD). As a result 400+ students have access to safe drinking water.

 

The Ngwainkuma Water Project- 2009

Better Family Foundation received funding from One Family International (USA). With the help of the community we found two springs sources and improved them by building catchments over both. After laying approximately 3 kilometers of pipes and building approximately 16 standpipes the entire Ngwainkuma now has access to safe drinking water. The entire project cost 12.5 million francs (approximately 25,000 USD).As a result 2000 villagers have access to safe drinking water.


CHILD SPONSOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

During the 2012-2013 academic school year BFF sponsored a total of 18 students (10 full sponsorship, 1 direct sponsorship, 7 partial sponsorship) totaling 387,500 francs (775 USD) of support given.

EDUCATIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Provided conflict resolution for 40 families over the past six years.
  • Trained a group of Community Health Agents to provide health knowledge in the neighboring community of Fujua.
  • Designed and implemented an eight week curriculum for a Peer Education Program which resulted in the training of 15 community members to provide health based knowledge to the community.
  • Gave over 100 health presentations to various community groups since 2006.
  • Organized many seminars/workshops for adolescents regarding:
    • Sex education, empowerment of young girls, HIV/AIDS sensitization
  • Organized many seminars/workshops for families regarding:
    • Successful marriages, family planning, conflict resolution
